Me (Naibe Reynoso) Shooting a real Gun! |
Zoe Saldana shooting a machine gun in "Colombiana" http://colombiana-movie.com/ In the new movie "Colombiana" out in theatres today, Latina actress, Zoe Saldana plays a cold-blooded assassin bent on avenging the murder of her parents. As part of the movies promotion, a select group of Journalists were invited to the Burro Canyon Shooting Range in Azusa so we could learn safety and shooting instruction. |
In short, I was going to learn how to shoot a real gun including a .22 magnum, 9 mm revolver, .44 magnum, and even a Glock!
Never in my life did I think that at some point down the road, I would have to "shoot a gun" as part of my job. I've never had a passion for law enforcement or detective work (well, only when I'm investigating a juicy story) but I have always wondered what it feels like to hold so much power in your hands.

I have to admit, at first I was a little scared. What if I misfired? What if I accidentally shot off my big toe because everyone who knows me, knows Im a big klutz. I decided leave to "bite the proverbial bullet", face the adrenaline rushing through my veins and muster up the courage to do it. Just like anything in life, my first round of shots were lousy. I barely even hit the Orange Circle! But as the lesson progressed and I got more comfortable with the guns and with a little more practice, I was actually shooting pretty good. I even got a bullseye!
Move over Schwarzenegger there's a new Action Hero in town, and her name is Zoe Saldana. And wait, before I shot my very last bullet, and in the spirit of Movies, I couldn't resist, and said out loud, "Say Hello to my little friend" ... Tony Montana "Scarface"

ReplyDeleteBurro Canyon is actually a zoo and has a terrible reputation for rude behavior amongst long time shooters. I've heard rumors of Burro Canyon being "ghetto" and just assumed it was gringos being prejudice toward the mostly Latino clientele. That is until I experienced the rude and unsafe actions for myself. For example on weekends its not uncommon to see shooters bring large groups to Burro Canyon's public range and crowd the shooting tables. I've also seen shooters fire across the range and at other people's targets. Last weekend I brought some old fruit to the range and noticed other's bullets bouncing around my targets. I figured it was probably poor aim until my oranges, and melons started exploding. When I confronted the shooter he just played dumb as if it wasn't him shooting and exploding my targets. I've also had my target frame (worth $5 if returned to the range store intact) shot up. I don't have these problems at Angeles Shooting Range, nor at Piute Shooting Range, nor at Oak Tree Gun Club. Is it because those ranges are further away from the city? Is it because those ranges have higher entry fees? Is it because of mi gente tends to get crazy and rowdy in large groups?
